Concerning the details of the description, the Artist stated as follows:

Abdou Mboup was born in the small town of Kebemer, Senegal to a family of oral historians and musicians. Having studied traditional drum under the tutelage of his family, Abdou soon became a key figure in the development of the Mbalax style (Senegalese dance music). In fact in the early 1970’s he was the first musician to incorporate various traditional instruments into Senegalesepopular music. A few years later, he Joined the renewened Dakar based groupe Xalam, which he toured Europe and Africa under the patronage of South African Trumpeter, Hugh Masekela.

By the 1980’s, Abdou was living and working in Paris, there he attracted the attention of the American trumpeter Jon Hassell, with whom he recorded and performed at the 1982 Womad festival in the UK. Soon thereafter, he became the percussionist of Eddy Louiss’s band with whom he toured and recorded for the next ten years. Concurrently, Abdou taught percussion at Loisirs et Culture music school in France and founded the jazz fusion band Sixun. In the years to come, Abdou’s career has only expanded.He has toured and recorded in Africa, Europe, America, Southeastern Asia, Japan, Nepal and India.From the 1990’s until now, Abdou has written original compositions for Jean Luc Ponty, Pharaoh Sanders,Tom Tom Club and Randy Weston

As a player, he has collaborated with Nina Simone, Joe Zawinul Syndicate , Kenny Barron,Hary Belafonte, Michel Petrucciani, Eddy Louiss, Ron Carter, Buster Williams, Joe Chambers, Steve Turre, Jon Faddis, Billy Higgins, Joe Lovano, Bob Stewart, David Murray, Bill Laswell, Jason Moran, Regina Carter, Wycliffe Gordon, Ronny Jordan, George Cables,Toots Thielmans, Africa Bamba, Jon Lurie, Chico Freeman, Craig Harris, Richard Galliano,, Michel Portal, Claude Nougaro, Didier Malherbe, Johnny Clegg, Manu Dibango.Abdou currently taught World Music Rhythm at the New School University, New York and live in Union City New Jersey. He is the leader of his own band WAAKAW, meaning “country people in his native wolof of Senegal.

Plus les années passent, plus la carrière de Abdou se développe, il a tourne et enregistre en Afrique, l’Europe, Amérique et l’Asie du Sud Est, Japon, Nepal et l’Inde. De 1990 jusqu’a maintenant, Abdou a écrit des compositions originales pour Jean Luc Ponty, Pharoah Sanders, Tom Tom Club et Randy Weston.. Il a collabore avec Michel Petrucciani, Richard Galliano, Claude Nougaro, Michel Portal, Didier Malherbe, Johnny Clegg, Manu Dibango, Bill Laswell, Nina Simone, Toots Thielmans, Jon Lurie, Africa Bambata, Chico Freeman, Craig Harris,, David Murray, Joe Zawinul, Bob Stewart, Joe Chambers, Buster Williams, Hari Belafonte, George Cable, Ron Carter, Wycliffe Gordon, Steve Turre, Jon Faddis, Billy Higgins, Tom Tom Club, Ronny Jordan, Kenny Barron, Jason Moran, Regina Carter, Joe Lovano, Elio Villafranca pour ne citer que ceux là. Abdou parallèlement a enseigne World Music Rhythm au New School University de New York et habite a Union City, New Jersey, USA et il est le leader de son propre groupe Waakaw qui veut dire campagnards dans son Wolof natal.
